Membrane attachment of R-factor deoxyribonucleic acid in compatible and incompatible cell pairs following conjugation.

چکیده
Superinfection of an Escherichia coli R(+) strain with a closely related R-factor was associated with the accumulation of replicative intermediates of the superinfecting deoxyribonucleic acid. This deoxyribonucleic acid remains associated with a rapidly sedimenting cell component.

Inhibition of bacterial conjugation by ribonucleic acid and deoxyribonucleic acid male-specific bacteriophages.
Both deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA) male-specific phages, with an F-specific host range, inhibited the bacterial mating process of Escherichia coli. DNA phages prevented the formation of mating pairs but had no effect on mating pairs once they were formed. A step in RNA phage infection, prior to RNA penetration, prevented the formation of mating pairs and, in addition, p...
متن کاملIsolation and characterization of conjugation-deficient mutants of Escherichia coli K-12.
Conjugation-deficient mutants (Con-) of Escherichia coli K-12 have been isolated by a variety of indirect selective techniques. Mutants with mutations conferring ampicillin resistance, fosfomycin resistance, an alanine requirement, and a failure of ferment a number of carbohydrates were selected because the impaired functions occur in association with cell wall and cell membrane defects. The in...
متن کاملDiscrimination and preliminary selection of self-compatible progenies among controlled crosses in almond using Sf specific primer
Self-incompatibility in almond and Prunus species is an important trait that prevents self-fertilization. Selfincompatibility in almond is controlled gametophytically by the multiallelic S-locus. Present study was done in order to identification and preliminary selection of self compatible progenies resulted from controlled crosses in almond using specific primer SfF/SfR. Some important morphol...
متن کاملStrand-specific nick in open circular R-factor deoxyribonucleic acid: attachment of the linear strand to a proteinaceous cellular component.
The fraction of covalently closed circular R-factor R12 deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) isolated from Proteus mirabilis was found to depend upon the pH of the buffer used to suspend the cells at the time of lysis. Examination of the open circular DNA revealed that there is one strand-specific nick per R-factor molecule. This same DNA strand also appeared to be bound to a proteinaceous particulate f...
متن کاملMembrane fusion/repair in nerve cells: a biophysical application in spinal cord injuries regeneration
Cell membrane has a critical and vital role in functioning and existence of nerve cells that form central nervous system (CNS) in mammals. Disruption of nerve membrane that normally occurs following an accident injuring spinal cord is known to be the major cause of paralysis. In most occasions, spinal cord injuries are not leading to complete cut in spinal cord fibers but are known to cause cru...
